The Medford Curb Appeal Overhaul

The front entrance of Mrs. Rodriguez’s home was becoming a safety liability. The original pre-cast concrete steps were spalling (flaking away), and the bottom step had sunk two inches, creating a tripping hazard for her elderly mother. The iron railing was rusted through at the base and wobbled when touched. She wanted a new entrance that was safe, code-compliant, and attractive enough to boost the home’s value.

The solution we gave the client

We demolished the old stairs entirely, removing the debris down to the soil. The most critical part of this job was the foundation; we poured a new reinforced concrete footing 48 inches deep—well below the frost line—to ensure the new stairs would never sink or shift.

On top of this solid base, we constructed a masonry core faced with red brick to match the home’s siding. For the treads (the part you walk on), we installed solid Rockport Granite slabs. Granite is virtually indestructible and provides excellent grip in snowy weather. We finished the project by installing custom black aluminum railings that offered the look of traditional wrought iron without the rust maintenance.

The result

The transformation was night and day. The home now commands attention from the street, and Mrs. Rodriguez has a safe, solid, and slip-resistant entryway that will last for generations.

My neighbors stop me to tell me how beautiful the new steps look. The craftsmanship is amazing—the brick lines are perfectly straight, and the granite feels so solid under your feet. The crew was polite and finished exactly when they said they would.
